Hai Rui Ruxian (1514-1587) was born in Qiongshan and was a famous upright official in the Ming Dynasty, serving successively as magistrate and prefectural judge in Hubu Shangshu, Warbu Shangshu, Shangshucheng, Youquan Capital Yushi and so on. He advocated for people to be clean and honest in politics, and to love oneself. He was upright and resolute, and he dared to criticize the powerful when he was in a low position, and never flattered. He was loyal and daring all his life, and once bought a coffin, bid farewell to his wife, and risked death. Hai Rui was impoverished all his life, restrained tycoons, comforted the poor, and attacked treacherous officials and corrupt officials, so he was deeply loved by the people.
